Firecrackers?

I was never fond of firecrackers.

Dangerous for my taste ... add the noise and the smoke it emits is enough to turn me off.

I am a fireworks fan!

Have a safe New Year celebration to all!

Christmas Tragedy

I was watching the news when this flashed in ... i was really surprised on how someone can think of doing it ... no matter what their reasons are.

This is truly a tragedy .. and it happened on Christmas Eve.

=============================================================

At least six people were killed when a man dressed as Santa Claus entered his former in-laws suburban Los Angeles house and opened fire on guests at a Christmas Eve party before setting the home on fire, police said on Thursday.

Bruce Jeffrey Pardo, 45, the only suspect in the shooting in Covina, California, later committed suicide and his body was found at a relative's house in nearby Sylmar, police said.

The suspect, who was carrying at least two handguns and a homemade incendiary device, began shooting as soon as he entered the house, Lieutenant Pat Buchanan of the Covina Police Department told reporters.

The house, which was owned by the parents of Pardo's ex-wife, caught fire during the shooting and was engulfed in flames when police arrived.

"Six bodies have been confirmed at this point. They have not been identified yet. They are too badly burned and will have to be identified by dental records," Buchanan said.

Police said they do not know how many of the victims died of gunshot wounds or from the fire.

Pardo and his wife recently settled a contentious divorce after a year of marriage, police said.

"He died of self-inflicted wounds. We believe it was a marital dispute," said Buchanan.

Two people were wounded by gunfire, an 8-year-old girl who opened the door and was shot in the face and a 16-year-old girl who was shot in the back as guests fled the house. Some jumped from second-floor windows, police said. Both girls' injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Witnesses among the 25 people attending the annual Christmas party told police that Pardo stripped off his Santa costume after the shooting and fled in street clothes.

Walmart Tragedy

This piece of news bothered me .... what has happened to the human race ... have we become ruthless? Savages? Beasts?

It reminds me of the Wowowee tragedy where hundreds get trampled on for a piece of paper that would spell instant money ... tragic.

This weekend, news reports were full of finger-wagging over the death by trampling of a temporary worker, Jdimytai Damour, at a Wal-Mart store in New York on Friday. His death, the coverage suggested, was a symbol of a broken culture of U.S. consumerism in which people would do anything for a bargain.

The willingness of people to walk over another human being to get at the right price tag raises the question of how they got that way in the first place. But in the search for the usual suspects and parceling of blame, the news media should include themselves.

Just a few days ago, the same newspaper writers and television journalists who are now wearily shaking their heads at the collective bankruptcy of our mass consumer culture were cheering all of it on.

In a day-before story, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution advised readers to leave the children at home, at least the ones not big enough to carry the loot, because they will just slow you down: "Strollers and crowds just don't mix, though we know a few shoppers willing to use four wheels and a child as a weapon. Younger children may also be seduced by the shopping mania and pitch a tantrum that slows your progress. That said, teens and young adults can be an asset to a divide-and-conquer shopping strategy. And you'll have someone to help carry the bags."

An article distributed by McClatchy-Tribune Business News sounded as if the writers were composing a sonnet for fishing or camping until they got to the punch line: "Nothing rivals the thrill of waking up before the sun, or that sprint through the store for the perfect present."

Another article distributed by the news service said that "some hard-core shoppers will be up before the sun, banging on store windows as the official start of the holiday shopping season begins. Weak economy, pshaw! There are sales out there."

In the wake of death by shopper, Newsday, the daily paper on Long Island, New York, where the event occurred, wrung its hands in the opinion page blog: "Was this deadly rush to lower prices an illustration of the current economic malaise (people mobbing Wal-Mart because they fear they can't afford higher prices elsewhere) or just proof that even a recession can't suppress stuff-lust?"

But beforehand, Newsday offered a "Black Friday blueprint," with store openings listed so shoppers could plot strategy, including a note that at 5 a.m., the Green Acres Wal-Mart would open and customers could expect to buy a 42-inch, or 107-centimeter, LCD television for $598. Many continued to pursue that particular bargain even as Damour lay dying.

The New York Times had a "Black Friday Shopping Survival Guide" on its Gadgetwise blog, but the overall coverage was far from frantic, reflecting grim economic and retail circumstances.

It's convenient to point a crooked finger after the tragedy at some light coverage of harmless family fun. Except the coverage is not so much trite as deeply cynical, an attempt to indoctrinate consumers into believing that they are what they buy and that they should be serious enough about it to leave the family at home.

Media and retail outfits are economic peas in a pod. Part of the reason that the Thanksgiving newspaper and local morning television show are stuffed with soft features about shopping frenzies is that they are stuffed in return with ads from retailers. Yes, Black Friday is a big day for retailers - stores did as much as 13 percent of their holiday business over the past weekend - but it is also a huge day for newspapers and television.

In partnership with retail advertising clients, the news media have worked steadily and systematically to turn Black Friday into a broad cultural event. A decade ago, it was barely in the top 10 shopping days of the year. But once retailers hit on the formula of offering one or two very-low-priced items as loss leaders, media groups began to cover the post-Thanksgiving outing as a kind of consumer sporting event.

"Media outlets have been stride for stride with the retailers," said Marshal Cohen, chief retail analyst for the NPD Group, a market research firm. Speaking on the phone on Friday evening after nearly 24 hours of working the malls, he suggested, "Something like this was bound to happen at some point. The man who died at Wal-Mart was, from what I understand, a temporary employee and had no idea what he was dealing with."

Given that early shoppers stomped him to death and later arrivals streamed past him as he was being treated, he could not be blamed for failing to understand the ungovernable mix of greed and thriftiness that was under way.

Yes You Can

A beautiful realtionship ....

========================
Son asked his father, 'Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me? The
father who, despite having a heart condition, says 'Yes'. They went on to
complete the marathon together. Father and son went on to join other marathons,
the father always saying 'Yes' to his son's request of going through the race
together.

One day, the son asked his father, 'Dad, let's join the Ironman together.' To
which, his father said 'Yes' too. For those who don't know, Ironman is the
toughest triathlon ever. The race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4
mile (3.86 kilometer) ocean swim, followed by a 112 mile (180.2 kilometer) bike
ride, and ending with a 26.2 mile (42.195 kilometer) marathon along the coast of
the Big Island .

Father and son went on to complete the race together.

now watch this:

Stop Racism

This happened to my egroup friend's daughter who is in New Zealand .. this is just an outrage!

=============================================================
I’ve been living in New Zealand for close to 8 years now. I must say that compared to most Asian migrants, my daughter and I have had it good. Racist remarks have been few and far between over the years. Racial discrimination whether at work or at social occasions have been subtle enough to render themselves obscure. Perhaps having a Kiwi for a Husband made all the difference. Maybe, maybe not. We were immune from the racial jibes. The taunts. Or so I thought.

When silly remarks were made in the past such as ‘Asian b*tch’ or ‘Go home to your country’ , they were mostly ignored by us. I’m an adult. I can handle it. Heck, I even survived the racist remarks made by my Husband’s ex-wife to me when she found out we were getting married — ‘She’s only marrying you to escape the Philippines’. It angered me, yes, that’s true. But I also learnt to dismiss it as rants of a narrow-minded and ignorant individual.

Like I said, these things I managed and learnt to ignore over the years. I’m an adult. I can fight my own battles. I can choose to ignore and dismiss things as I go.

But sometimes, there are things that you can’t ignore. Especially if they are emotionally affecting someone you love more than life itself.

That someone is my only daughter, Bea.

Yesterday, she came home from school hysterical after a very traumatic bus ride. Five teenage boys taunted her and THREW STONES at her INSIDE the school bus while taunting her saying she doesn’t belong here and that she’s an Asian b*tch. If she was not in a public place, who knows what extent they’d go to in their desire to be hurtful and destructive. I shudder at the thought.

It took all my herculean effort not to break down while my daughter narrated what happened to her over the phone.

I rage at the thought that this happened while my daughter was on her own without her family to protect her.

I rage at the thought that this is happening to a child who’s done nothing to deserve this treatment.

I rage at the thought that my daughter is being robbed of her childhood, her innocence. She is only 11! My daughter has started questioning her right to be in this country (this is not the first act of racist bullying she’s experienced). She may not be born in New Zealand but she is a New Zealander and has lived here more than half her life! We pay our taxes, we obey the law and we deserve to be treated with respect.

I rage at the thought of doing nothing.

When it affects my daughter’s welfare, I will speak and stand up for her rights.

So today, I make a stand.

I make a stand to STOP. RACISM.

As parents, you may think that silly remarks like ‘Asian b*tch* or ‘Lazy Maoris’ or ‘bloody nigger’ are harmless. But when spoken out loud in front of impressionable children, these can be taken as the ‘norm’. That it’s ok. Those children will grow up to become teenage bullies who will think nothing of what they say. Because they heard and learnt them from YOU.

PROTECT MY CHILD’S INNOCENCE.

Protect your children’s innocence.

I will not wait for anything worse to happen to her before I speak up.

I will not wait for her to question her life and the reason for loving and living in this country.

I will not wait for her to tell me ‘Mum, I want to go home.’ Because this is home for us. This is where we are building our family’s memories. New Zealand is the country we are re-planting our roots.

I will not allow for my daughter to consciously start mixing exclusively with her ‘own race’ to protect herself.

I will not wait till it’s too late. I don’t want to feel the anguish of Megan Meier’s parents have gone through with her suicide due to bullying at MySpace.

I want her to grow up knowing that this a better world for her. A world where people accept and respect you for you who you are regardless of the colour of your skin or station in life. A world where my daughter can grow up confident about herself and can stand up for her rights. Knowing that she is loved and that she is worth something.

Spread the word.

I am hopeful that each time my sharing gets read, it will make a positive difference in the way people view others. Remember, it takes one tiny step to make a difference.

STOP. RACISM.

Stop it now.

This is a battle worth fighting for. A war worth winning.

Believe You Can .. You Will

In 1883, a creative engineer named John Roebling was inspired by an idea to build a spectacular bridge connecting New York with the Long Island. However bridge building experts throughout the world thought that this was an impossible feat and told Roebling to forget the idea. It just could not be done. It was not practical. It had never been done before.

Roebling could not ignore the vision he had in his mind of this bridge. He thought about it all the time and he knew deep in his heart that it could be done. He just had to share the dream with someone else. After much discussion and persuasion he managed to convince his son Washington, an up and coming engineer, that the bridge in fact could be built.

Working together for the first time, the father and son developed concepts of how it could be accomplished and how the obstacles could be overcome. With great excitement and inspiration, and the headiness of a wild challenge before them, they hired their crew and began to build their dream bridge.

The project started well, but when it was only a few months underway a tragic accident on the site took the life of John Roebling. Washington was injured and left with a certain amount of brain damage, which resulted in him not being able to walk or talk or even move.

"We told them so."
"Crazy men and their crazy dreams."
"It`s foolish to chase wild visions."

Everyone had a negative comment to make and felt that the project should be scrapped since the Roeblings were the only ones who knew how the bridge could be built. In spite of his handicap Washington was never discouraged and still had a burning desire to complete the bridge and his mind was still as sharp as ever.

He tried to inspire and pass on his enthusiasm to some of his friends, but they were too daunted by the task. As he lay on his bed in his hospital room, with the sunlight streaming through the windows, a gentle breeze blew the flimsy white curtains apart and he was able to see the sky and the tops of the trees outside for just a moment.

It seemed that there was a message for him not to give up. Suddenly an idea hit him. All he could do was move one finger and he decided to make the best use of it. By moving this, he slowly developed a code of communication with his wife.

He touched his wife's arm with that finger, indicating to her that he wanted her to call the engineers again. Then he used the same method of tapping her arm to tell the engineers what to do. It seemed foolish but the project was under way again.

For 13 years Washington tapped out his instructions with his finger on his wife's arm, until the bridge was finally completed. Today the spectacular Brooklyn Bridge stands in all its glory as a tribute to the triumph of one man's indomitable spirit and his determination not to be defeated by circumstances. It is also a tribute to the engineers and their team work, and to their faith in a man who was considered mad by half the world. It stands too as a tangible monument to the love and devotion of his wife who for 13 long years patiently decoded the messages of her husband and told the engineers what to do.

Perhaps this is one of the best examples of a never-say-die attitude that overcomes a terrible physical handicap and achieves an impossible goal.

Often when we face obstacles in our day-to-day life, our hurdles seem very small in comparison to what many others have to face. The Brooklyn Bridge shows us that dreams that seem impossible can be realised with determination and persistence, no matter what the odds are.

Even the most distant dream can be realized with determination and persistence.

Makes you wonder why even a life of an innocent boy not spared?

Jennifer Hudson's Tragedy, No Survivors

This is such a big loss ...

I hope they have the strength and courage they need to overcome this tragic moment.

No one was spared.

===========================

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson's 7-year-old nephew was found dead in the back of an SUV on Monday, ending a frantic search that began after the shooting deaths of her mother and brother three days earlier.

The singer and actress was among seven family members and close friends who cried and held hands as they identified Julian King's body from a live image on a television screen at the Cook County Medical Examiner's office Monday afternoon.

Chicago police spokeswoman Monique Bond said the boy, like his grandmother and uncle, had been shot. The medical examiner's office planned a Tuesday autopsy.

Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis said a motive remained unclear Monday but added, "It wasn't a case of a stranger-type homicide."

Police have characterized the slayings as "domestic related" and authorities have been questioning Julian's stepfather, who has been estranged from the boy's mother and is being held on a parole violation. No one has been charged in the slayings.

Julian's body was found shortly after 7 a.m. in the rear seat of the SUV, which matched the one mentioned in an Amber Alert for the boy and was parked on the street in a neighborhood of brownstone homes and apartment buildings.

The vehicle was about 10 miles from the house where the other victims were found, which was where Julian lived and where Hudson grew up.

Hudson had offered $100,000 Sunday for information leading to the safe return of her nephew, the son of her sister, Julia Hudson. Hudson's publicist did not immediately return calls and e-mail messages Monday.

"Miss Hudson wanted to request privacy," Cook County spokesman Sean Howard said after the family left the medical examiner's office. "This is a very trying time for her and her family."

Hudson's aunt, Dorothy Hudson, said the Chicago funeral home she owns with her husband will handle arrangements for the family, but details were pending.

"We're just sad. We're going through this stage where we're just sad and in shock," Dorothy Hudson said.

The Amber Alert had listed William Balfour, the estranged husband of Julia Hudson, as a suspect in a "double homicide investigation." He is not the boy's father and has not been charged in the slayings.

Weis said Monday that Balfour "remains a person of interest."

The chief said he was confident that with two crime scenes, investigators would find important clues.

Balfour, 27, was taken into custody for questioning Friday after the bodies of Hudson's 57-year-old mother, Darnell Donerson, and 29-year-old brother, Jason Hudson, were found.

On Sunday, Balfour was transferred to the Illinois Department of Corrections, where a spokeswoman declined Monday to discuss his parole violation.

Corrections records show Balfour spent nearly seven years in prison for attempted murder, vehicular hijacking and possessing a stolen vehicle. He was expected to remain in state custody until the Illinois Prisoner Review Board looked at his case.

Balfour's mother, Michele Balfour, has said Hudson's mother kicked Balfour out of the family home last winter. She denied her son had anything to do with the killings.

It was unclear whether Balfour had an attorney.

Lynette Louden, 47, said she called police about the SUV across the street from her home on Chicago's West Side after her family's Chihuahua started barking at it early Monday. Some neighbors said they hadn't seen the vehicle before Monday, but Louden said it had been there since at least Saturday.

"I only hoped the body wasn't in there," she said. "When they said that it was, I cried."

Weis said police were waiting for the autopsy to determine how long the boy had been dead, but estimated the vehicle was parked on the street "a couple of days."

When asked how officers could have missed the SUV during their massive search, Weis noted that Chicago is a big city and that the vehicle was "several miles away from the first crime scene."

Steve Peterson, head of the department's Bureau of Investigative Services, said the search for the boy had been centered farther east based on information they had about where Balfour's current girlfriend lives.

Hudson, 27, who won an Academy Award for best supporting actress in 2007 for her role in "Dreamgirls," returned to Chicago to be with her family during the weekend. She also had identified the bodies of her mother and brother.

Neighbors and well-wishers brought stuffed animals and other items to a makeshift memorial outside Donerson's two-story white clapboard home as news of Monday's discovery spread.

At a candlelight vigil on Monday night, hundreds of people gathered outside the Englewood home. They sang, held hands and cried in the cold as they contributed to an expanding memorial of stuffed animals, balloons and flowers.

"I wanted to come out and support the community in their endeavor and to let Jennifer Hudson know how much we care and we're praying for her," said Doris Jones, who lives in the neighborhood. "It pains all of us to know three lives are gone and we don't know why."

Cuppy Cakes

This clip garnered a lot of negative comments and to think it was categorized under "funny videos" ... looks like some people perceive this in many different ways.

Others were offended ... some were amused ... and a lot more.

Being a mom, this video showcases not the condition of the health of the child but his personality .. this is what i saw when i watched the clip .. you make look at it diffrently too. I went passed the fact that the little boy was obese (which by the way is a disease and it was not like the parents allowed the boy to grow fat this way) but what shined here is the confidence and the shining personality of the boy, who no matter that he is looked at as fat, he can still be happy and confident ... and have not shied away in a hole.

Just my blogging thought ....

So Paris

This on the other hand is a class on her own ... you missed her face ... well surely you won't miss the personalized top .... snap away paparazzi! Bring it on!

Paparazzi Accident

Look at how being hounded with paparazzi can cause an accident ... tsk tsk.

This is Mary-Kate Olsen riding the car with her femail friend and followed by the paparazzis. They just won't let up.

Put Them In Writing

Angelina Jolie hit the town for the first time since giving birth to twins when she appeared at the premiere of her new movie Changeling.

The gorgeous star debuted a new tattoo on her left arm which lists the latitude of longitude of the birthplaces of her six children.

Maddox was born in Cambodia, Pax is from Vietnam, Zahara was born in Ethiopia and Shiloh popped out in Namibia.

This year Ange’ gave birth to twins Kox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline while in Nice in France.

As MTV News observers will know we love the Brangelina clan so we were pleased to see the couple hit the red carpet once again.

Speaking on the red carpet Jolie talked about her massive family: “It’s so much fun but it’s very hard world. The kids are forming beautiful friendships. They’re teammates.” Ah!

She added: “The twins are just the sweetest little things. They lay next to each other a lot and respond to each other.”

Ange is already receiving Oscar buzz for her role in Changeling- which is directed by Clint Eastwood

Belly Ring Brouhaha

Miley Cyrus (Of Hannah Montana Fame) celebrated her 16th birthday seven weeks early at Disneyland. The "Hannah Montana" star actually turns 16 on November 23, but she threw her sweet sixteen party on Sunday, October 5.

Fireworks laden the skies at 11:30 pm which reportedly irked neighboring houses as they were already asleep and branded Miley a brat with no regard of others.

Oh well.

Now she made her belly ring debut and more eyebrows and tongues as wagging!

Personally, i don't find anything wrong with it .. if it the "in" thing for the tweens then i see nothing wrong with it as long as everything is in check.

You really can't have everything .. especially please everyone around you.

We have our ears pierced and nothing comes of it. Why should this be different?

Robbed Of Her Youth

Living Goddess .. a privilege or a tragedy?

She does not even know what is happening here ... what she willl be put up to.

==========================

Matani Shakya, 3, newly appointed 'kumari,' or living goddess in Nepal, looks on as farewell rituals are performed before taking her to kumari house in Katmandu, Nepal, Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008. Selected between the ages of 2 and 4, living goddesses are worshipped by both Hindus and Buddhists. Devotees touch the girls' feet with their foreheads, the highest sign of respect among Hindus in Nepal. During religious festivals the girls are wheeled around on a chariot pulled by devotees. Wrapped in red silk and adorned with red flowers in her hair, Matani Shakya received approval from the priests and President Ram Baran Yadav in a centuries-old tradition with deep ties to Nepal's monarchy, which was abolished in May.

The new "kumari" or living goddess, was carried from her parents' home to an ancient palatial temple in the heart of the Nepali capital, Katmandu, where she will live until she reaches puberty and loses her divine status.

She will be worshipped by Hindus and Buddhists as an incarnation of the powerful Hindu deity Taleju.

A panel of judges conducted a series of ancient ceremonies to select the goddess from several 2- to 4-year-old girls who are all members of the impoverished Shakya goldsmith caste.

The judges read the candidates' horoscopes and check each one for physical imperfections. The living goddess must have perfect hair, eyes, teeth and skin with no scars, and should not be afraid of the dark.

As a final test, the living goddess must spend a night alone in a room among the heads of ritually slaughtered goats and buffaloes without showing fear.

Having passed all the tests, the child will stay in almost complete isolation at the temple, and will be allowed to return to her family only at the onset of menstruation when a new goddess will be named to replace her.

"I feel a bit sad, but since my child has become a living goddess I feel proud," said her father Pratap Man Shakya.

During her time as a goddess, she will always wear red, pin up her hair in topknots, and have a "third eye" painted on her forehead.

Devotees touch the girls' feet with their foreheads, the highest sign of respect among Hindus in Nepal. During religious festivals the goddesses are wheeled around on a chariot pulled by devotees.

Critics say the tradition violates both international and Nepalese laws on child rights. The girls often struggle to readjust to normal lives after they return home.

Nepalese folklore holds that men who marry a former kumari will die young, and so many girls remain unmarried and face a life of hardship.

Racist Clip .. again!

================

Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros on Monday asked the BBC to issue a public apology for presenting a racist, humiliating and disgusting depiction of a Filipina domestic worker.

"It was revolting. It was a disgusting and an insensitive and racist attempt to satirize a scene of exploitation," Rep. Hontiveros said.

The skit, a segment in the popular 'Harry and Paul' comedy show, was aired on BBC 2 last September 26, 2008. In the skit, a postman approached comedian Harry Enfield, who was clearly agitated and shouting at someone, and asked him what was going. It then turned to comedian Paul Whitehouse, who was seated on a chair on his lawn, and beside him was a young girl wearing a grey uniform and an apron gyrating and dancing lasciviously. Harry then told the postman that he was shouting at his Filipino maid to do her job and get his friend Paul to mate with her.

He kept ordering the girl to gyrate and dance in front of Paul and even instructed her to "hump him". When an indifferent Paul stood up to go inside the house, Harry scolded the Filipina girl, telling her to get out and just go. The scene closed with the postman sidling up to the Filipina, whispering to her as they walked off together.

Free .. Why?

This news is bothering me ... my question is "WHY?!"

I do not understand the logic of shortening the sentence and freeing someone who is really responsible for a brutal crime. He is not someone that "could have done it" .. we all know "he did it" .. so why is he out now?

Good Behavior? .... Rubbish!
========================================

From AbsCbn News:

Claudio Teehankee Jr., the convicted murderer of a Filipino-Swede girl and her friend in Makati City in 1995, has been released from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City after President Arroyo commuted his sentence.

Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez said Teehankee, a son of former Supreme Court Chief Justice Claudio Teehankee Sr. and brother of former justice undersecretary Manuel Teehankee, was freed on Friday last week.

Gonzalez said the Department of Justice, Bureau of Corrections and Board of Pardon and Parole "carefully studied" the commutation of the sentence for two to three years.

Gonzalez said it is the President's prerogative to commute or give pardon to any prisoner.

Teehankee was found guilty in 1995 for murdering Maureen Hultman and her friend Roland John Chapman in Dasmariñas Village in Makati. A third victim, Jussi Leino, was wounded in the attack.

The convict was sentence to life imprisonment and two counts of reclusion temporal (maximum of 17 years, 4 months and 1 day to 20 years).

BEIJING - China's agriculture minister acknowledged Tuesday that the country's milk-gathering system was "out of control" and led to abuses that put contaminated dairy products in stores across Asia, sickening some 54,000 babies and killing four.

At least nine countries banned imports of Chinese dairy products, and the World Health Organization warned of possible smuggling of melamine-tainted infant formula across borders. The European Union told customs authorities to keep a closer eye on food imports from China.

Melamine, used to make plastics and fertilizer, has been found in infant formula and other milk products from 22 Chinese dairy companies. Suppliers trying to cut costs are believed to have added it to watered-down milk because its high nitrogen content masks the resulting protein deficiency.

Since the discovery of tainted milk was made public, China's government has scrambled to respond. Recent days have seen a number of arrests and forced resignations of officials as reports of sickened children spread outside the Chinese mainland to Hong Kong and Macau.

A total of five children outside the Chinese mainland — in Hong Kong and Macau — have been diagnosed with kidney stones after drinking Chinese-made milk products and Hong Kong regulators found tainted cake, officials said Tuesday.

A 16-month old child in the southern Chinese gambling enclave Macau was diagnosed after being fed Nestle milk powder made in China's northeastern Heilongjiang province, the government said in a statement. No government tests have found melamine in Nestle milk products, and Switzerland-based Nestle said its milk products sold in China and Hong Kong are "absolutely safe" and that none are made from tainted milk.

Since the scandal broke earlier this month, Bangladesh, Brunei, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan have placed at least partial import bans on Chinese dairy products or foods that may contain milk. Vietnam has ordered testing of all Chinese milk products and pulled several thousand gallons of milk from supermarket shelves.
